When I first started practicing yoga, I was attached to a high octane practice where I was focused on what I could “do”. The harder, the faster the practice, the better. My practice now focuses on restoring, rather than depleting the body, mind and spirit. This is achieved with focused breathing, movement targeted on strength and flexibility, and meditation. Translated into my teaching style, I work with my students to find the most appropriate yoga approach for each individual based on their needs at that particular time.
Yoga can provide relief from the hectic nature of modern life. Restorative yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation encourage a turning inward of the senses. This provides essential downtime for the nervous system by withdrawing the senses from the outer world in order to recognize the sensations of your inner world.
The challenge is not to do “more” in our already hectic lifestyles, but to add a healthy approach to slowing down.
I look forward to practicing with you.
                    Namaste,
                            Krista
TESTIMONIALS

I officially started Krista’s Restorative Yoga class on June 26, 2009. So far I’ve only done one class a week and I’ve noticed significant changes in the way by body feels and how I approach my habits and addictions. I’m about 55-60 pounds overweight and my cholesterol levels are at 315. I’ve also been a smoker most of my life. None of the medications prescribed have worked for me to stop smoking OR for the cholesterol, because of the horrible side effects that attack my muscles.
I started walking five years ago with my dog, and only walk during spring and summer months; consequently it has NOT reduced my weight or my bad cholesterol, nor had I completely stopped smoking.( cut back to 2-5 cigarettes a day, but still too many)
After the fourth week of Yoga practice, I began to really notice a change in my breathing when I walked, and most importantly, I began to notice what I was consuming. The meditations before and after Yoga poses, have helped me literally see what is wrong with my body and how it can be fixed. I literally saw the nicotine clinging on to the fat cells in my blood vessels during meditation.
In just this short time of practicing Yoga, I’ve finally stopped smoking so I can enjoy the practice EVEN more. I cannot say if I’ve lost pounds yet, because I will not weigh myself anymore. BUT  I feel 100 times better than I did when I started and I am convinced this new way of life is the answer for me.”

Krista's calm, steady voice and infinite wisdom provide an ideal opportunity for anyone to advance in their yoga practice. Krista's evening yoga practice guides us through a creative series of asanas and pranayama that brings us peace at the end of a frequently hectic day.”

Message from the elderly:
“Although the changes come slowly, they do come, under your gentle direction.  As a result, I find myself discarding that sad preconception of inevitable physical decline and embracing the positive  yoga posture of Hope ...this is a great gift, Krista Sanderson, and I thank you for it.”

“Yoga class is the one hour a week I can devote solely to myself. Thank you for providing a nurturing environment in which I can recharge, and for incorporating stretches that specifically target the distressed areas of my body.”

“I have recently  resumed yoga after not doing so for over five years.  Having been, what I regarded,  as being pretty active during that time period, I didn't think it would be a very big deal resuming (with total denial that having just celebrated my "medicare" birthday could have any bearing) .  WRONG!  I soon discovered that an injured shoulder which had gone through quite a bit of physical therapy was, in reality,  quite stiff and had lost  considerable range of motion, and a right hip was very tender,  not being able to attain poses that had been quite do-able in earlier years.  The GOOD NEWS  is that after only about three weeks of four classes a week I have already achieved greater range of motion in the shoulder and the hip is not nearly as sore.  It is truly amazing how forgiving the body is and how fast it can respond - given a chance.    I had also forgotten how good one feels walking out of a class with a sense of control and calm knowing I have done something for Me - my mind, my body, and my spirit!  Thanks for your kind spirit and guidance.”

“I began taking yoga in 2003 after being diagnosed with osteoporosis. I am trying to avoid the family "dowager's hump" that comes from compromised posture and loss of bone mass. What I found was a full body workout that really helps with the loss of flexibility. I especially love the feeling of leaving the class "taller" than when I entered. The big reward for a discliplined practice is the total relaxation at the end of class. (I call it going to my "yoga place").
Since that first class, we have had a series of different instructors that all bring a different perspective and style to yoga. I am in awe of Krista's clear "uncluttered" instructions and perfect flow for each individual practice. She tunes into the class and provides exactly what we need. She is a true professional.
